A summer on
Teams iOS.

Microsoft · Teams iOS

Your catch-up,
at a glance.

I shipped the Catch Up widget to production behind a feature gate, surfacing unread and mention counts without opening Teams.

SwiftUIWidgetKitApp Groups
The engineering behind it
  • Built the TimelineProvider and entry model, including an all-caught-up state.
  • Shared counts across the app and widget extension through App Group storage, keeping mention and unread counts consistent.
  • Traced a background refresh failure to a missing mutable-content: 1 push field. Documented the fix for the badge count service team, unblocking all three widgets.

A few words from the team.

My LinkedIn profile ↗
Ramzi quickly ramped up on a complex codebase, demonstrated strong technical skills, and successfully delivered his project with high quality and professionalism.

Excerpt from a LinkedIn recommendation

Our team did not go easy on our interns when it came to technical questions, and I was impressed by how comfortably he handled that scrutiny, defended his thinking, and incorporated feedback.

02 / Selected projects

What I’ve been
working on.

Three projects, and what I learned from building them.

PROJECT / 01 · BACKEND SYSTEMSIn progress

Chess Intelligence Engine

I’m currently building a Python/FastAPI backend that processes chess games, evaluates positions with Stockfish, and returns structured analysis through APIs and JSON reports.

My goal is to build a scalable chess-analysis platform that helps players understand recurring mistakes, recognize patterns in their play, and improve over time.

What the benchmark taught me

Moving from 8 to 16 concurrent requests added only 9% throughput while latency rose from 1.6s to 3s. Independent Stockfish processes improved concurrency, but CPU saturation limited the payoff. More concurrency wasn’t automatically better performance.

PROJECT / 02 · ACCESSIBLE PRODUCTS

AfyaBot

A WhatsApp-based assistant for clinic and symptom information. An Express webhook pipeline processes free-text messages and routes users to relevant information through Twilio.

The performance decision

I cached clinic data in memory to avoid repeated lookups, reducing lookup latency from 3 seconds to under 1 second. The project focused on delivering information through WhatsApp for people with limited internet access.

PROJECT / 03 · APPLIED AI

Alfred.AI

A RAG-powered financial analysis application that uses Gemini to answer questions grounded in uploaded financial reports, with a React and TypeScript frontend and a Python/FastAPI backend.

Retrieval and evaluation

I implemented semantic retrieval with embeddings and Supabase pgvector to supply relevant report context for generated responses. I also built automated LLM evaluation tests that compare responses with predefined expected answers to check factual accuracy and identify incorrect outputs.

03 / A little about me

I usually want
to know why.

I’m a computer science student at UT Dallas, graduating in May 2028. I enjoy tracing bugs across system boundaries, testing assumptions with benchmarks, and turning ambiguous problems into useful software.

I’m looking for a Spring 2027 software engineering co-op where I can contribute to a team and keep learning. I’ll be returning to Microsoft as a software engineering intern that summer.
